Today is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s birthday. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was born on October 13th 1948. He died 16 August 1997 aged 48. He was mainly a qawwali singer who has revived the qawwali to its heights with his unique style to modernized the qawwali. Later in his career he worked in pop industry with his classical style and gain massive popularity with each of his song.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was born in Faisalabad and started singing qawwali at the age of 16. He became the leader of qawwal party at very early age. He continued singing qawwalis and later in his career he gave movie songs as well composed several hits. He also collaborated with foreign music directors. He performed briefly in UK, USA, India and Japan.
In late 1990s Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has collaborated with Peter Gabriel & Eddie Vedder to record sound tracks for them in western music style blended with his eastern classics. This mark his entry to the pop industry and he gave music to Pakistani & Indian movies which were instant hits. His songs in his last Indian movies were released 2-3 years after his death. Song “Dulhe ka sehra suhana” & “Saya b sath jab chor jae” were released after his death. He also gave music to Lata & Asha Bhosle to be featured in bollywood movies.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was died in London after kidney failure. He was to fly to Los Angeles for kidney transplant but had cardiac arrest at a London hospital and he died there. He body was taken to Faisalabad and his Namaz e Janaza offered there.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was award the highest civil award Pride of Performance from Pakistan President. He also received UNESCO music award in 1995.
